The End of Kenny vs Spenny

Kenny vs Spenny is an amazing show. On December 23rd is it's season finale. kenny vs spenny, show, canceled, kenny hotz, spencer rice
The show is from Canada, it is one of the funniest shows ever where two friends compete each episode over an agreed on challenge. It started as a small, low budget show, but after season 5 was co-produced by the creators of South Park. It started to "jump the shark" a bit in the last two seasons though. Kenny, by far the funnier and brains of the two, began to move on to other things, like the show Testies, which is also very funny...and got canceled after 1 season.

But this is quintessentially a GUY show. With episodes like:

"Who Can Eat More Meat"
"First Guy To Stop Singing Loses"
This episode was "Who Can Keep a Dead Octopus on Their Head the Longest"
Who Can Keep a Dead Octopus on Their Head the Longest, kenny vs spenny

New TV Shows

Communitycommunity, nbc, jeff, abed, troy, funny new show, writing, writers
I think with these kind of "group story" shows the key is to cast all funny people and have good writers. This show is great and i think will get even better. The plot is that they all go to this community college, happen to be in spanish class together, join a study group and become friends. I think the funniest part so far was when Aved and Troy were just learning the first words and sentences that everyone always reads in those books:
"Hello my name is"
"Where is the library"

Modern Family modern family, annoying kids, al bundyfamily
Some parts are really funny, the kids are definitely not one of those parts. The dialog the writers came up with for the kids to say is dumb and not believable. No little kids that are 9-14 years old talks this way.

One really funny part was when the "cool dad" sayshe knows all the moves to High School Musical.

(just skip to 30 seconds)

I also heard Dexter and Flashforward were good shows so i might give them a try.

Top Gear coming to America

It just came out that November 21st on the History Channel is the premier of Top Gear in America. It's a spin off of the very popular British show which talks all about cars.

Top Gear is that it's an awesomely funny show on the BBC, it's up to 17 seasons and has 350 million viewers per episode world wide.

Top Gear, BBC, new season, episode, coming to america, jeremy, james, richard
Some of my favorite episodes include things like:

  • Driving across Africa in a $500 car
  • Drive to the North Pole in a truck (the first people to ever do it)
  • Homemade electric car
  • Turning a car into a boat (the best out of the 3 they made is the one below, the TOYbOTA)
TOYbOTA, amphibious car, jeremy clakson, top gear challange
If you want to know the most economic Chevrolet for 2011, don't watch. But if you want the know whether the Maclaren F1 is faster than the Bugatti Veyron, or if you have $1000 and need to buy a car to drive across South America then this is the show for you.

The thing that makes the show so great is the 3 hosts. If the new hosts of the American Top Gear are even half as funny then it will be worth watching.

The PIR

The Price is Right LOGO, how to get on the showAs i had said a few weeks ago, my buddy John and i were on the Price is Right in LA.
The reason why we didn't get to sit together is that we showed up at 8:30 and we were just about the last people in the studio, out of 316 people we were 309 and 310. We lucked out and barely made it. So when we walked in to the studio they split us up. John went to the right, got screwed and had to sit in the last row. I went to the left, somehow lucked out and sat right up front behind contestants row.

tips to get on the price is right, win prizes, how to win car
how do i get to be on the price is right show, pir, hollywood
Here's me telling the contestants what to bid. If they would have listened to me they would have won every time but once. For example in this picture i was telling her to bid $1000. The winning bid...$1000.
how to bid on the price is right show, when to bid 1 dollar
Here was the funniest part of the show, when Roy got up there and bid $200 for a wicker chair. It ended up being $1400. It was the worst bid. Drew even joked around during the commercial with his family on how bad it was.
way to win on the price is right show, contestants row, get called
John in the back row surrounded by all the people in red shirts
how to get your name called on the price is right show, drew carey
Some quick things to know about the show:

  • they film 2 shows a day but to be sure to get on the show you should probably get there before 7am. then in our case they said they had 50 empty seats for the second show and people could stay in their seats and see that too
  • before you get to be in the audience you have to sit/stand for hours in 2 different lines, where you hold colored tickets with numbers on them. for example they might say "ok i need all the people with blue tickets, numbers 1-200 to line up here"
  • they have a brief "interview" with people to decide on who to call up (ie. the sailor and the woman who's 60th birthday it is)
  • no camera or cell phones allowed. you have to go through a metal detector and leave your phone in a cardboard box.
  • the studio is way smaller then it looks on tv
  • the stage is also a lot smaller then you think
  • the announcer, Rich Fields, talks before the show and is really funny. he tries to tell you what to do and where to go when if you get called up
  • Drew talks to the crowd between commercials, while they are setting up the games and he was also really funny.
  • there are about 15 people and 3 cameras on the stage during the show, making it difficult to see what's going on from the audience
  • it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to hear anything that drew or the announcer is saying. they want you to clap and cheer constantly and their microphones don't amplify out to the crowd so it's real confusing.
  • when they say "Joe Smith, come on down..." you can't hear that at all so they have 2 people up on stage that hold up big signs with "Joe Smith" written on it.
  • it did seem a lot more difficult when you're there compared to sitting on the couch at home. especially for the first two games it was weird, but by the end you got the hang of it.
  • many of the people in the crowd were their for their 2nd or 3rd time. one guy in the crowd was from Hawaii and it was his 16th time on the show. but most of the repeat attendees are from the LA area. they said that the record was this guy who was on 69 times before he finally got called up to contestants row.

Moneyball

Karrie and i saw Moneyball the other night. It was a great movie.

It's based on the true story of the Oakland Athletics trying to compete in baseball with only a fraction of the payroll of teams like the New York Yankees.

Brad Pitt was the general manager that realized that he could not compete by doing the same thing the other teams were doing.
Brad Pitt stars in Moneyball as Billy Bean, Oakland Athletics GM
Jonah Hill played the guy that majored in economics and calculated the players with the most value.
Jonah Hill stars in Moneyball, movie, with brad pitt, funny guy
It showed cool inside meetings of how players were traded to different teams.
Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill stars in Moneyball, movie, great together
It was a little slow at times but overall really interesting and funny.
